Jamie Baehl graduated from the University of Evansville in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a minor in management. She is currently working as a Project Engineer at American Structurepoint. Jamie believes that the faculty of the engineering department at UE “truly care about helping every student succeed.”

Faculty at UE helped Jamie to connect with alumni, which in turn helped her to receive scholarships. “You could go to or even call a professor if you needed help with homework, a project, or a reference letter.” Jamie’s professors also went out of their way to teach evening classes for students who weren’t able to take them during the day.

UE prepared Jamie for her career in ways she didn’t expect. She believes that her difficult school work taught her to learn and adapt quickly, which made her a standout to employers looking for a “young engineer willing to learn and have a positive attitude.”

Jamie believes that there are several beneficial activities offered to engineering students during their time at UE. One of these activities is the concrete canoes team project, where she “learned to be proactive and carefully follow standards.” Another activity which Jamie spoke highly of is the Senior Design project, “because we designed for a real client and learned how to give a professional presentation to private and public entities.”

Jamie encourages current students to try to get internships or job shadow as soon as possible so that they can determine what discipline of civil engineering they are most interested in. “Knowing what you enjoy or don't enjoy makes the job search much easier.” Jamie also recommends getting involved in extracurricular activities because “employers enjoy well-rounded individuals who can work on a team and problem-solve.”
